Manufacturing affordable electric cars faces several hurdles because of the high cost of key components like battery, and the technology. The ability of OEMs to launch products at an attractive price point, while also offering the desired range and safety features, remains to be seen, given that the battery prices continue to remain high led by the surge in prices of key minerals. It is said that the battery prices need to decline by about 25%-30% from current levels to help achieve price parity for the PV segment.
