GM announced on social media that the next generation of the Chevy Colorado midsize truck is on the horizon. The truck will debut on July 28th, 2022. Here is everything we know so far about the brand new 2023 Chevy Colorado redesign.
While General Motors has not announced an actual release date of when 2023 Chevy Colorado trucks will arrive in dealer showrooms, we expect to have an official release date announced on the debut date of July 28th, 2022.
The previous generation Chevy Colorado was announced in the final months of 2013 and was on dealer lots by mid-2014. With current trends, the redesigned Chevy Colorado will be released in the final months of 2022.

Yes, the Chevy Colorado is being redesigned. For the next generation of this midsize truck from General Motors, the most drastic change we are expected to see is in the exterior and interior styling, reports Car and Driver. The current Chevy Colorado is nearly 10 years old, having debuted at the LA Auto Show in November 2013. While the current truck received a facelift in 2021, it is not much more than a redesigned front fascia. For the brand new 2023, we can expect a brand new aggressively designed truck.
Already in the teaser video posted to GM’s social media outlets, we can see glimpses of a planned safari bar. We can also see an aggressive front fascia with headlights similar in style to the Chevy Blazer. The back end of the truck looks similar to the styling found on the full-size Chevy Silverado’s taillights and tailgate. While the interior is hardly shown, we can see GM is planning on using a steering wheel similar to what is already found on the current Chevy Colorado.
It is expected that the 2023 Chevy Colorado will be offering relatively similar trim packages to what the current 2022 model offers. With that said, the current generation Chevy Colorado starts at around $25,435 MSRP for a work truck model. The 2023 Colorado is expected to remain in that price range.
The current Colorado also offers an LT trim with some added V6 power for around $30,000 MSRP, and the 2022 Colorado hits its highest trim with the ZR2 model, which can hit around $47,000 MSRP. The Colorado shown in the 2023 teaser video is the ZR2, which is expected to be around the same price as the current model.

While the 2023 Chevy Colorado is expected to be a brand new model, many of the underpinnings look to be the same as the previous generation. The current Chevy Colorado has three engine offerings. The first option is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine making 200 horsepower at 6,300 RPM and 191 lb-ft of torque at 4,400 RPM.
Also available is a 3.6-liter six-cylinder engine making 308 horsepower at 6,800 RPM and 275 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 RPM, and an enthusiast favorite, the 2.8-liter Duramax turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine making 181 horsepower at 3,400 RPM and an impressive 369 lb-ft of torque at 2,000 RPM.
Chances are, the 2023 Colorado will retain at least two of these engines, with the possibility of the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine being dropped altogether, or replaced with the 2.7-liter turbo four-cylinder engine found in the Chevy Silverado.
The Colorado is also expected to retain its two available automatic transmissions, a 6-speed, and an 8-speed. These transmissions have worked well in getting the current Chevy Colorado excellent fuel economy. In fact, in some trim levels EPA estimates reach 20 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.
As we wait for the official Chevy Colorado announcements to be made at the July 28th debut, it is exciting to think about what the next generation of Chevy’s midsize truck is going to offer.
