In this epic drag race showdown, we see modern muscle going head-to-head with classic muscle to see who comes out on top.
Everyone loves a good drag race, and it's great entertainment watching two very fast cars go head-to-head down the 1/4-mile to see who can come out on top. Usually, with drag races, you want to see equal cars race each other, but this video from Cars And Zebras on YouTube showcases a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 taking on a 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, providing a unique drag race.
Let's take a closer look at the two cars. The ZL1 is an interesting car, with a 427 cubic inch V8 engine and a lot of aluminum in the engine bay with its aluminum block, heads, and intake manifold. The car was factory rated at around 430 hp, but the reality was that it made more like 500 hp, and roughly 550 lb-ft of torque. Inside this particular ZL1 is a turbo 400 three-speed automatic transmission.
The Challenger SRT meanwhile has a 6.2-liter V8 engine with a 2.7-liter supercharger. This engine makes around 808 – 840 hp depending on the fuel octane, so quite a bit more than the ZL1. It also has an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Of course, there is a bit of a weight discrepancy between the two cars. The Camaro ZL1 weighs in at 3,660 lbs with the driver onboard. With just 69 produced in total, these are incredibly rare and expensive cars.
The Challenger SRT meanwhile has quite a bit of extra weight onboard, evident by its weight of 4,280 lbs, excluding the driver. But is that weight disadvantage enough to put it behind the Camaro ZL1? Well, it's time to find out.

As you might expect from the stacking up of the two, there was no real chance for the ZL1 to beat the SRT. However, to its credit, it put up a pretty solid fight against its much more modern rival. The Camaro ZL1 was able to post a top speed of 116.88 mph and make a 1/4-mile pass time of 11.84 seconds. The Challenger SRT meanwhile posted a top speed of 130.62 mph with a 1/4-mile pass time of 10.52 seconds, so it was perhaps much closer than you might think.
